Dear Aunty – I [The Letters]

Dearest Aunty in the Lord,

I received your letter earlier this week and when I saw it, I smiled. I understood why you’ve been delaying uncle for six months. The fact that I understand it doesn’t justify it, though.

In the letter you wrote to me, you explained why you have kept mute. I understand that uncle isn’t the man you had dreamt of getting married to. You had expected him to be a tall, fine, beard-gang uncle oozing class and poise, but he turned out a little opposite. I understand that the day he came to propose to you, he wore a grey baggy chinos trouser with an orange T-shirt tucked in and a black pointed mouth shoe to match. Did I tell you he himself told me all this? He said he dressed that way to impress you because you had told him earlier that orange was your best color. How thoughtful! Can we just applaud him for having your interest at heart?

Of all the things you wrote, this was what moved me the most. You said you knew the answer was positive after the third month of his proposal. In your own words, “I felt at peace with him, but his outlook kept me praying the more, as he wasn’t the kind of man I envisaged.” Therefore, I can say you kept him waiting while ‘praying’ to see if another would come. That’s not good at all, aunty.

I’m not here to castigate or guilt-trip you, but I’ll ask you this. How would you feel if uncle was in your shoes? I’ll leave that to you to answer.

Aunty, guess what? You may just be the magic touch to uncle’s outlook – the angel to transform him into that suave man with a look of class and poise that you so desire.

If you’ve got peace, please don’t delay.

I’ll be looking forward to your reply.

Till I hear from both of you again, remain in God.

PS: Whoosh, I think I just got a new email?

Yeah! This is absolutely correct. Once God clears him, go ahead and give him the response except if God asks you to tarry.

  2. Sunday

Among several reasons why ladies delay b4 saying “I do” are, “This is not a man of my dream or I have my eyes set on some other man, I need to get clear confirmation from God b4 I take the plunge, I wan do small shakara so that him go value me.” Out of these 3 reasons, only the 2nd is reason enough to make a man wait bcos u can’t afford to make a mistake. Conderations like he’s tall, he’s handsome, he get class or swag etc. are just too weak too flimsy yardsticks to build a lifetime commitment or relationship. They may bring u together, attract you to each other, but they won’t keep u together.
Great post Mama PriscaTee, more grace.
